GMP Partners with Godnicks Grand Furniture to Become eBiz and Save Money

Installing Heat Pumps Will Cut A/C Electricity Use by 30% and Fuel Usage by 40%
COLCHESTER, VT… Demonstrating how effective cold climate heat pumps can be, Green Mountain Power is working with Godnicks Grand Furniture in Rutland to install the largest number of heat pumps GMP has done in Vermont in a single location to heat and cool its 24,000 square foot showroom cost-effectively. The partnership is part of GMP’s eBiz program, which helps local Vermont businesses save money, use less energy and provide a more comfortable environment for employees and customers. Green Mountain Power has worked with more than 40 businesses in its eBiz program, helping them to save money and reduce their carbon footprint.
“Working with great Vermont businesses like Godnicks Grand Furniture we’re transforming the way our business customers think about energy helping them to reduce costs, and create a healthier and more comfortable place to work and shop,” said Dan Mackey, Innovation Champion at Green Mountain Power, who worked with Godnicks to identify the energy saving opportunity. “Heating and cooling such a large showroom is energy intensive and costly, and this will make a substantial difference for them.”
Godnicks Grand Furniture in Rutland will become GMP’s most recent eBiz, with an installation of 20 hyper-efficient ductless heat pump heads. The system is much more efficient and cost-effective than replacing its aging air conditioning system. The heat pumps will provide affordable cooling in the summer and heating in the winter, using less energy and substantially less fossil fuel than its existing system. Heat pumps move heat rather than generating it, so they can deliver equivalent space cooling or heating for significantly less than the cost of operating conventional cooling or heating systems.
The addition of heat pumps will reduce the air conditioning electric consumption by 30% over the old system and reduce the fuel consumption by 40 % during the heating season, saving the company money.
“Green Mountain Power’s heat pump leasing program made so much sense to us as we work to find new ways to reduce our cost of doing business,” said Brian Godnick, President of Godnicks Grand Furniture, Vermont’s largest furnishings store. “This program will allow us to significantly reduce our oil and propane use in the winter and provide a comfortable cool place for our employees and customers in the summer months. We are so glad we learned of GMP’s eBiz program.”
Through its eHome and eBiz program, GMP is partnering with Vermonters to accelerate the adoption of greater energy efficiency tools and products that are cost effective, use dramatically less energy and can operate more independently of the grid.
