GMP Customers See Greater Reliability in 2015

10 February 2016

Strategic Focus by GMP Crews Means Shorter Outages

Colchester, VT…. Green Mountain Power filed a new report with the Vermont Public Service Board outlining the positive impact of the Company’s laser focus on reliability. The report shows decreased outages in 2015 and increased system reliability.

“Keeping the power on and restoring it quickly is one of the most important things we do for our customers,” said Mary Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer. “As Vermont’s Energy Company of the Future we are always focused on what we can do to improve reliability in an era of more erratic weather and an increasing number of storms all year long.”

As part of its reliability report, Green Mountain Power measures the number and length of outages. In 2015, customers saw the average time without power all year drop to 3.5 hours, significantly lower compared to a five year average of nine hours. Also in 2015 customers saw the average length of each outage decrease to less than two hours.

GMP points to strategic investments in trimming branches away from lines, relocating poles from wooded areas and deploying and staging crews in advance of storms to reduce dispatch times.

“We have focused significant resources on enhancing reliability to reduce outages and the length of outages when they do occur,” Powell continued. “At the same time we are leading an energy transformation that generates more clean power closer to where it’s used all while keeping rates incredibly low and stable.”

Jerry Dubie, GS Precision's Facilities Manager in Brattleboro, said, “high quality, reliable electric service is very important to us, as we manufacture high-precision machined components for the aerospace and defense  industries. We really appreciate that GMP has made reliability a top priority while keeping rates affordable. That’s exactly what businesses need to thrive. We’ve seen some tough storms in the past and we are glad that GMP is looking ahead to the future.”

Green Mountain Power has also increased its outage-related information and communications. Customers can report their outage easily and receive regular updates through GMP’s award-winning free app, available at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. They can also use GMP’s text service by texting REG to 46788 or GMPVT, or signing up online at greenmountainpower.com/textalerts.
