GMP Crews Restore Power as Wintery Weather Hits the State

20 November 2016

Advanced Planning had Crews Deployed Around State Ready to Respond
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power crews began responding early Sunday morning to outages caused by heavy, wet snow bringing down trees onto power lines across Vermont. Outages began in southern Vermont, but are expected to affect other parts of the state as the rain turns to snow. As of 9 a.m., approximately 2000 customers were without power, mostly in Bennington County.
“We’ve been watching this weather pattern very carefully and prepared well in advance so we could respond quickly to any outages,” said Dorothy Schnure, spokesperson for Green Mountain Power. “Our dedicated crews are working hard to respond to outages and get the power back on as safely and quickly as possible.”
Forecasts are calling for wet snow to continue through the day, which is likely to cause more outages as the weight builds up on tree branches.
GMP is focused on safety for crews and Vermonters during storms and reminds the public that power lines may be live and dangerous, even if on the ground or tangled in trees. GMP urges people to call GMP or emergency officials to report any downed lines and to stay well away from downed lines.
“In addition to our crews, we have additional crews ready from out of state to help as needed. We are closely monitoring the forecast and are ready to respond to any damage caused by this storm,” said Schnure.
Green Mountain Power will provide updates on the storm on Facebook, Twitter and to the media.
