GMP Continues to Monitor Potential Flooding here in Vermont
Colchester, Vt. – With extreme weather hitting the east coast causing widespread outages, Green Mountain Power is monitoring rivers closely for flooding while sending crews to help restore power in southern New England.
“We are fortunate that yesterday’s storm caused only a handful of outages in Vermont, while our southern neighbors sustained much greater damage,” said Dorothy Schnure, Green Mountain Power spokesperson. “We are, however, seeing rivers continue to rise, so our power production workers are closely monitoring for any flooding.”
Green Mountain Power reminded the public to stay away from riverbanks and other areas where the water is rapidly rising and never attempt to cross high water on roads. “It is so important to be careful and stay away from rapidly moving water,” Schnure said.
45 Green Mountain Power lineworkers, supervisors, safety personnel and mechanics are heading to Connecticut this afternoon to help restore power after yesterday’s windstorms caused significant amounts of damage.
“We work hard to make sure our customers have reliable service, and we take great satisfaction in being able to help others when needed,” Schnure said.
