GMP Crews Prepared for Upcoming Storm

27 May 2015

High Winds, lightning, rain could cause outages across the state

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power is prepared to restore power if predicted thunderstorms cause outages this afternoon.
“This morning’s hot, humid weather is likely to give way to severe thunderstorms this afternoon,” said Dorothy Schnure, GMP spokesperson. “We are watching the radar very closely so that we can send crews to areas most likely to be affected and restore power as quickly as possible. We’ve already lined up additional crews to assist, if necessary.”
GMP is focused on safety for crews and Vermonters during summer storms, which can bring down trees into power lines. “Power lines may be live and dangerous, even if on the ground or tangled in trees." Schnure said. “We urge people to be exceptionally careful near any area that experiences damage during a storm.”
Green Mountain Power will provide updates on Facebook, Twitter and to the media. Customers may report outages and get updates through GMP’s text service or award winning app, as well as calling 1-888-835-4672, or visiting GMP’s Outage Center page at www.greenmountainpower.com.
To sign up for the text service, simply text REG to 46788 or GMPVT, or sign up online at greenmountainpower.com/textalerts.  Customers can sign up for GMP’s award winning app at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search for GMP.
