GMP Crews Prepared for Upcoming Storm

28 December 2015

First Significant Snow Storm of Winter Could Cause Outages Around State

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Power is prepared to restore power if the winter storm predicted to begin early Tuesday morning causes outages. Crews are especially focused on areas forecasters predict could be hard hit, like the Middlebury and Rutland regions.

“Our crews are ready to respond quickly to any outages that may come with the first significant snow predicted for this winter,” said Dorothy Schnure, GMP spokesperson. “The wintery mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and gusty winds can bring trees onto power lines, and the slippery roads often cause cars to slide into poles, also causing outages.”

Safety is important to keep in mind during winter storms. “Our crews are focused on quickly and safely restoring power. We also pay attention to customer safety and remind customers to be safe during winter storms by staying away from any downed power lines and by being extra careful on slippery roads,” said Schnure.

GMP has also arranged for additional contract crews to support the GMP crews.
