Green Mountain Power, Fresh Tracks Capital, VCET to host entrepreneurial gathering

01 February 2013

Rutland, VT– Green Mountain Power, Fresh Tracks Capital and the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies will co-host “Tech @ Rutland Meet-Up”, an opportunity for business owners and entrepreneurs seeking investors to meet and connect with resources to help rejuvenate local businesses, startups and the economy. “Tech @ Rutland is an opportunity for local businesses and entrepreneurs to meet potential investors and discuss ways to jumpstart new or existing businesses,” said Steve Costello, GMP’s vice president for generation and energy innovation.  “The concept has proven successful in other areas, and we see this as a great, free opportunity for businesses that need capital, interns, mentorship and advice from professionals from a wide variety of organizations.” “The Tech @ Vermont Meet-Up series has been very successful in connecting statewide resources with local entrepreneurs,” said Andrew Stickney, vice president of the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies.  “Given GMP’s push to make Rutland the solar capital of New England and local efforts to support startups, we think the event presents a great opportunity for the community.”

The mixer-style event will be held Feb. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Green Mountain Power’s temporary Energy Innovation Center at 67 Merchants Row in Rutland, across from the former Eastman Building, where the EIC will move this fall.  The event will not feature speeches or formal presentations, but the opportunity for entrepreneurs to trade information and ideas and make contacts with a variety of potential investors and supporters while enjoying light food and drinks. “These kinds of meetings have created some tremendous partnerships and connections in other areas, and we think Rutland is primed for something like this,” Stickney said.  “There has been some solid momentum in the area over the past year or so, and a lot of good things on the horizon, so we think the timing is perfect.”

In addition to GMP, Fresh Tracks Capital and VCET, the event will include leaders from the Rutland Economic Development Corporation, Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce, Rutland Downtown Partnership, Community College of Vermont, Launch VT, North Country Angels, the Vermont Small Business Development Center, the Vermont Agency of Commerce and the Vermont Technology Council.  Anyone interested is invited to attend.
